When it comes to topping international lists – from its education system to its financial hub status, for example – the tiny island of Singapore can seem like a giant. But nothing quite sets apart the city than its (almost perverse) obsession with food, especially the pride natives have for its local hawker cuisine. It’s one big reason why Singapore startup Picky has launched Famous Eats, an interactive food guide that  maps out the best hawker food in Singapore.

From char kway teow to wonton mee, satay to dimsum, the intrepid food folks at Picky carefully curates and selects the best of Singapore hawker fare – leveraging data interpretation from its accompanying mobile app that pulls together data and reviews from major social networks, including Instagram, Foursquare, as well as Picky’s own user generated content – and presents that information to its users. Currently 24 local favourite dishes and over 200 hawker stalls are featured in the first edition of Famous Eats, with more categories and stalls to be added in future updates.

“Picky is always looking to bring more value to our users. With Famous Eats, we documented the best local food in Singapore on an interactive map, helping locals and tourists discover the best of local hawker fare in Singapore,” explains Lee Ken Ming, CEO of Picky and creator of Famous Eats.

The Picky app is itself a one-stop platform mobile application for food lovers to find the best that Singapore has to offer, and currently has a database of over 10,000 restaurants. Founded in 2012, the app is available for iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices.
