[Interview] Meet Dr. Ryan Shelton Of South Beach Skin Lab

Dr. Ryan Shelton was dispassioned by skincare products that were out on the market.

They never seemed to deliver the results people were looking for. So, he began working with South Beach Skin Lab to end the cycle of ineffective.

Educated in Biochemistry, Dr. Shelton went on to receive his Masters from the University of Kansas. From working in health clinics for women, to serving as a Board and N.A.B.N.E. Certified Doctor, Dr. Shelton has helped countless people achieve younger and healthier looking skin. His innovative outlook within the industry has allowed for him to deliver outstanding results, elevating a buzz around the effectiveness of the products. The smartly created line has laid a new path for how professionals approach and think about skincare and it’s making a big difference along the way.

Being an entrepreneur is rewarding but takes a lot of work. What were some of the hardest lessons you’ve learned while owning a business?

I have learned that failure is a necessary occurrence in order to allow for success. Often times, I have learned what roads not to take and how not to do something before a successful solution will present itself. I have learned that perseverance, determination, creativity, and hard work are all requirements for success. I have never believed other people when they tell me something is too challenging or a fresh, new discovery and direction can not be made. Finally, your personal ego can be an impediment so it is important you surround yourself with other talented people who believe in you and work hard with you for success.

What is something you wish you had been told before becoming a business owner?

Being a physician, you are taught to proceed using very specific protocols and algorithms to help diagnose and treat patients effectively. Being an entrepreneur takes an additional skill set and approach to find solutions to problems. It rather takes more creativity.  It requires that you search more deeply in your own research for solutions on your own regarding common problems and be more creative about connecting dots that other people may have previously overlooked. I also wish someone would have told me that being a physician is also similar in a way.  A physician does, in fact, have to be a marketer and salesperson.  But he/she does so not through flashy and manipulative marketing strategies. But rather by providing effective, thorough, precise and well researched services which people notice makes a tremendous difference in their lives.

Can you tell us about your proudest moment during your career? How did it shape you?

The proudest moment of my career was when I realised I do not necessarily have to save lives to be a great physician and hero. I simply have to improve lives and offer assistance to those in need by changing the trajectory of their suffering into wellness. The first time it happened was early on in my career when a mother, sobbing in grateful tears, returned after several months thanking me for what I had done for her daughter. And because of my wonderful profession, that immense feeling of satisfaction and pride recur over and over again each time someone returns for a follow up visit and radiantly thanks me for making a difference in their lives. I also know that they help influence their family and friends to make a difference in the health and wellness of the community.

What inspired you to start with South Beach Skin Lab?

I became increasingly frustrated with the number of clients who would bring in the topical creams, ointments and gels they were using for skin health and anti-aging and ask my opinion on what I thought the effectiveness was for helping reduce fine wrinkles, sagging skin, and dark spots.  What I kept seeing over and over again was that many of the ingredients contained in these products were either based on older science or poor science.  So, I decided to embark on my own research to take a look at the new science coming out for skin care products and anti-aging. What I discovered was truly remarkable and lead me to help develop South Beach Skin Lab.

How does South Beach Skin Lab differ from other products out on the market?

South Beach Skin Lab products have been developed based on rigorous research of new scientific studies conducted on innovative and safe ingredients. It is a simple yet comprehensive system of skin care products, which if used consistently, can have dramatic effects on the health and appearance of skin. When using the full routine of the products daily, clients see long lasting results and not just temporary. The South Beach Skin Lab system addresses core issues even in the deepest layers of the skin. It helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, and discolorations of the skin. When used together, the products make improvements in the different types of skin and tissues of the various parts of the face and neck.

Do you have any advice for others looking to pave their way through the industry?

Always look at what is currently available in the marketplace and learn from their mistakes and deficiencies. Look for solutions which address underlying problems of skin health for long term success, not just ingredients which may change how you look in the mirror temporarily. Create a comprehensive skin care system which provides results using a routine.  Ensure that you have an educated, responsive customer service to maximize results.
