  1. Hi,

I’m thinking of selling pastries (eg: chocs, cookies, tarts etc) at affordable prices in shopping centres. The main crowd should be teenagers and young adults.

Which shopping centre do u think is more suitable and what are the rates for renting the pushcarts? I’d prefer somewhere that has lesser competitors and lower than $100/day.

    Thanks!

    Alice

    • Alice: So let me get this right – You want somewhere cheap, have huge traffic and little to no competition? I wish you all the best in finding something like that!

OK seriously. Selling chocolates, cookies and cakes from pushcarts is difficult in malls, simply because almost every mall have bakeries, supermarkets and delis that compete directly with you.

And like I’ve already pointed out to previous posters: I don’t find out rates on your behalf. You have to contact them yourself.

  2. hie..

iwould like to rent a pushcart that attract alot of people. im selling authentic brand from u.s and which location should i go for and how much is the renting per month.

  3. Hi Daniel,

    Thanks for the information.

I would like to sell wine hampers with flowers as well as bottle gardens, the price range is around $30 to $60.
I was considering china square, but I’m on the waiting list. Any other places that we can consider?

    Thanks

    • Hi Angeline,

The problem with selling wine, even in hampers, is that you’ll run into conflict of interest issues with the wine shops present in most malls. China Square is a good choice, alternatively you may want to explore Change Alley (nearer to Chevron House).

Actually, setting up within a business park – Changi Business Park, International Business Park – may be another option. There are plenty of working professionals there with a need for such gifts.

Another thing you may want consider – consigning or working in partnership with flower shops.

  4. Hi Daniel,

    Thanks for all the information.

Would like to ask if I would like to sell vintage and chic clothing, which is a more appropriate place?
May i know you if know anything about renting a shop in Bugis Village?

    Thanks

    • Hi DeeNie,

It will depend on what pricing you’re looking at for chic or vintage clothing. In fact, I actually do not quite recommend a pushcart for such fashion – it’s hard to charge higher prices for arguably “rarer” items of clothing.

Actually, if you have the appetite for risk – why not try a pop-up store:

      http://trendwatching.com/trends/POPUP_RETAIL.htm

It’ll be an interesting concept and coupled with smart social media initiatives, this can be a real hit!

      PS: I hate Bugis Village.

  5. hi have a cart at parkway parade outside mcdonald,

  6. Hi Daniel,

I am interested in renting a Push Cart in Tampines Interchange, along the walk way from Tampines MRT going to Tampines Bus Interchage, however I do not have the contact number or email address of the Push Cart provider there. Please help…

    Thanks

    Darson

  7. I am selling of baby products and location of each area definitely had 1 push cart that is selling of baby products. Do you have any ideas which location is best for selling of baby products no matter the competitors is but crowds like mum will consider and look into it.

    • Hi Elvin,

I’m not too familiar with baby products, but I believe United Square is catered towards young families with young children, as in a certain area in Suntec City – Tower B I believe. These places have higher rentals, but they will draw a sizeable crowd of the right market. They do offer pushcarts, I believe.

  8. Hi, i am planning to open a push cart but keep on thinking that which is the location i should open and currently i have two choice now, either open outside the shop or a push cart so thats made me headache thniking which one is better. Ang mo kio location is good and near to where i stay so i cant choose places any further but many of the owner selling the same kinds of stuff i gonna sell. Hope you can give me some opinion and can consider about it thanks.

    • Hi Elvin,

I’m not sure why you’re even considering setting up near – as you readily admit – so many competitors just for the sake of convenience?

To me you have 2 choices – either set up somewhere less convenient but with less competitors, or sell something else.

Why affect your chance of success?

  9. Hi,
I am interested in resting a pushcart at Northpoint, near the Bus interchange.
Who do a call? Could you provide a contact number.
    Thanks
    Jo

  10. Hi there i would like to know how do i rent a pushcart? As tis is my first time any advises? Im focusing on airbrush poster done manually.

    • Hi Yasmin,

Assuming you’ve already decided whether to incorporate, find a venue you like, call them, ask them for rates and the procedures. Then do your sums and see if it works out for you.

Nothing quite like going out and giving it a try!

  11. Hi Daniel,
I am looking for a place to sell Japanese tableware sets which are below $90, where do you think I should consider (I am thinking of Tanglin Mall bec of its expatriate clientale) setting up the push carts?

    Thank you.

    • Hi Kim,

For Japanese tableware, you can consider places that attract a large tourist crowd – other than Tanglin Mall, Suntec City and Raffles City Shopping Centre can be good options. However, rentals at those places can be steep.

Tanglin Mall sometimes also have a weekend bazzaar, but that’s probably not suitable for Japanese tableware.

I’d recommend trying something different instead – talk to furniture retail shops to see if they are willing to carry (and more importantly, display) your products.

  12. Hi there Daniel,

First and foremost, thank you for the information.

I would just like to ask you if you have ever heard of shops renting rack space, i.e. subletting. Rack or table space catering mainly for clothes and accessories. If so, would you have any idea on the location and rental rates of these shops?

    Thanks!

  13. hi,

my partner n I fly often and we ve imported quite a bit of items from Japan 100yen stall. wonder if we should start a pushcart or in fact should we just find ways to sell them? thks

  14. Hi, i am wantin to sell some cosmetics. Interested to rent a push cart. Is there any weekend push carts available?

  15. Hi,

My sister and i will like to open a pushcart at far east plaza..are you able to get the number??\

    Thanks:)

    • You can try calling 67326266 (o) or 96736477/96675130 (hp) – it’s for the rentals for shops but they can probably help you on the pushcarts as well.

  16. im lookingfor a place to sell clothes and accesories… have been wanting to do pushcart business, but proberbly with rental 50/per day and with young crowds.. any suggestions?

  17. I’m looking for $50 to $80 per day push cart in east areas. Please advice me on where should i start where there’s crowd of all ages.

    Thx..

  18. Hi Daniel,

May i know the rates of push cart in Tampines Mall? Is there still have any space for push cart?

    Thanks=)

    Sylvia

    • Hi sylvia,

You’ll have to apply directly to the mall yourself, as my site only does this as an information resource. However, if you’d like to pay me a commission to do it, that’s different of course!

But it’s best you go direct. Cheers and all the best.

      Daniel

  22. Hi,

    valeriekho@uel.com.sg

    thanks 🙂

  23. Im thinking of BUYING pushcarts, or renting the pushcarts, anyone know where I can buy them, and maybe these suppliers also service and maintain them when they are broken etc.

    Email me at jacklin84@gmail.com

  24. Hi Min,

Pushcarts in established malls or designated spaces usually do not require licenses.

However, you’ll need one depending on the type of goods you’re peddling. Food, health products, for example, may require approval from authorities. Go check at http://www.business.gov.sg for the appropriate licenses.

  25. Hi Nyx,

For wet markets, you’ll need to contact the various Town Councils that oversee them, and they should be able to guide you to the right people. However, they have rather stringent guidelines when it comes to leasing the stalls i.e. you need to be retired and have a family income below a certain level.

I’m not too sure about selling fashion clothing in wet markets, unless you’re targeting the elderly women market. In any case, all the best!

  26. Hi Everyone,

I would like to start up a small business to test the market selling fashion clothing ,
my target is daily about $70 in wet market to have a stall . But i do not who and where should i find .
Can anyone advise me , or know any people can rent a place for me in wet market.

    my mobile :91812231
    Thanks Ya

    • Hi ANG (and all),

What you see in the list is all I have. If it’s not there, it’s not there.

Feel free to contribute contact details for other locations if you have.

And sorry, I don’t search out contact details on anybody’s behalf – this is simply community service and I don’t make money from this. Now, if you offer to pay me to do your research for you, that’ll be a different story. No offense intended.

      Otherwise, all the best.

    • Hi,

I’d prefer if you link to this site as opposed to putting the information up wholesale on your site.

      Thanks.

  27. Hi,

I have noticed that the locations fore rental which are stated above are mostly for shopping malls and central areas. Would you happen to have any information of rental of push carts in the beach areas like Sentosa or Changi. Thinking on setting up a one under food and beverage.

    • Hi Carol,

Currently I don’t have the contacts to the locations you mentioned, but if you or anybody else has them I’d be glad to update the list.

  28. nobody will blame you if anything go wrong in fact i should thank you for giving mi all the important suggestion. but hows the rental there.? do you have any idea.?cause i plan to start from BLOG shop first.but i dunno how the market out side now.?

  29. Hi nobody,

Not sure if you have read these other posts I put up on pushcart marketing, they may be helpful:
    https://youngupstarts0.wpengine.com/2008/08/17/where-should-i-locate-my-fashion-pushcart-business/
    https://youngupstarts0.wpengine.com/2007/08/16/pushcart-entrepreneurship/

I hesitate to recommend exact locations to you (after all I don’t want to be blamed in the future if things go wrong), but you may want to check out the following youth-friendly locations: Bugis Junction, Cathay Cineleisure, Plaza Singapura, Tampines Mall.

I recommend you spend some time researching the type of people who frequent these malls and see if the traffic and demographic suits your wares.

    All the best!

  30. den you got any recommend for mi.if i sell youth clothes where should i location the store.?i am thinking of having a pushcart but i have no idea where to open?thanks.

  31. Hi nobody,

The first thing I’d recommend is to consider focusing on a target audience first – selling “all age” clothes is a recipe for disaster. The places a school-going youth go to buy clothes is totally different from a senior citizen.

  32. I am keen on getting a pushcart to sell all age clothes etc..
i prefer doing at shopping mall.. but i dun have any idea of place do u have any suggestion ?

  33. hi everyone
i have few question to those of you which understanding in push cart business
i’m looking for best location to open push cart?
if i’m foreigners and want to do so what is the procedure ?and how much it’s will cost me the renting per month ?
    please let me know
    thanks gil

  34. I am keen on getting a pushcart to sell basically food for adults like breakfast set and etc..
i prefer @ west area and near interchange.. do u have any suggestion as well ?

    • Hi Rachelle,

I recommend you spend some time observing the morning work rush around the various bus interchanges and MRT stations, especially those with heavy foot traffic such as Jurong East and Jurong West.

Studying what’s currently available at those locations and what people buy for breakfast can give you an interesting insight of what can or cannot sell.

      All the best!

  35. Hi,there anyone know how to apply a stall in tampines bus interchange?

I had setup a shop in other country.but not good bussines so i end it up.

  36. Hi Emily,

There are many, many factors to consider – I’ve written a post on it before:
    https://youngupstarts0.wpengine.com/2008/08/17/where-should-i-locate-my-fashion-pushcart-business/

There is no one location that is the most ideal, it all depends on what kind of fashion you have, and what pricing you are going to set. But I do hear from a friend that the Tanglin Mall flea market is a good place to experiment as it gets a very good crowd on weekends (usually expatriates and foreign domestic help who love their fashion).

    Hope this helps!

  37. I am keen in starting a business in fashion clothes for young teens and adults. However, I would like to rent a stall/pushcart/flea market space to test out the market first on weekend basis. Could you advise me on the ideal location? My budget for space rental is around S$70 or less per day. I mean not necssary to be in Shopping Centre because if shopping will be expensive. Anyway i have just started at Clark QUAY at three weeks ago as the response i s good but the rent is too expenisve. Do you have any subject?? Hope to hear from you asap. Thank Yo
