Crowdfunding, the new in-thing in micro-financing that’s taken the world by storm thanks to the likes of Kickstarter, takes a twist with new crowdfunding site CrowdIt.

CrowdIt (www.crowdit.com) aims to take a different approach to crowdfunding by building an online community,  as well as incorporating elements of mentoring, peer review and business networking for inventors, innovators, entrepreneurs and other associated dreamers. Aside from tapping other people’s wallets, the site wants also to leveraging on the collective power of the crowd to create the support system aspiring entrepreneurs need to turn their ideas into a reality.

“Our vision for crowdfunding is about helping people achieve their dreams – be it starting a new business, developing a new invention or creating a technology start-up – and leveraging the power of the crowd beyond just the funding event,” says Jason Graf, co-founder and CEO for CrowdIt. “We think the business networking possibilities alone can transform crowdfunding into a true economic engine that is ready to jumpstart new enterprises of all kinds.”

“Crowdfunding presents a new and exciting opportunity to provide entrepreneurs access to early-stage capital, an important success factor in turning ideas into prosperous business enterprises that create new jobs,” said Allen Kunkel, associate vice president for Economic Development at Missouri State University. “CrowdIt’s approach of including mentoring and networking as part of its overall value proposition speaks to its commitment to facilitating small business development.”

CrowdIt is currently accepting crowdfunding projects on its site, and projects will go live on the site June 4, 2013. The Springfield, Missouri-based startup is privately held and backed by venture capital firm Baron VC.

  1. Great and very informative post on the Good of Crowdfunding. But what about The Bad, and The Ugly of Crowdfunding? Crowdfunding Platforms? In this space there are limited resources and education for individuals to learn about how to get started with crowdfunding. Many campaigns do fail because of lack of experience, limited knowledge and education. In my research i have found a platform that will teach, educate, and give marketing tools to make your crowfunding experience easy, less painful and fund your project in a very short time. A Very SHORT Time! Go here to CrowdRising at http://www.crowdrising.net/ref/silentmoney

  2. There are lot of people with little background into crowdfunding, looking to start. I think mentoring could be very beneficial for a lot of them. Sort of to guide them and educate them a bit on crowdfunding. Before they actually create or start a campaign. Lot of the crowdfunding websites fail to do this. In my experience with Thrinacia (https://www.thrinacia.com) and some of the research I have done, many campaigns fail because of that lack of experience, or limited knowledge.
